A shoulder separation refers to an injury to the acromioclavicular joint- the joint that joins the collarbone to the shoulder blade. This type of injury is most often treated with non-operative management, usually consisting of physical therapy and rest.
A shoulder dislocation is different to a shoulder separation and can require sedation in order to have the joint put back in place. Most often, the result of a shoulder dislocation is a labral tear, which is a tear to the tissue around the socket of the joint. A labral tear may be fixed surgically, but it is often managed with bracing and physical therapy during an athlete's sports season.
Knee injuries are very common in sports, such as soccer and gymnastics, because of the cutting and stopping that is required in these sports. The most common knee injury is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The ACL is one of the four major ligaments in the knee joint. ACL injuries typically occur when there is a lateral blow to the knee or twisting manoeuvre.
Pain associated with less severe injuries (e.g., bumps and bruises) can often be managed with rest, ice, compression, and elevating the area. However, more severe conditions and injuries conditions will require professional sports medicine treatment, and in some cases, surgery. Treatment may also include physical therapy to help restore your joint function.
